Matawhero Church House
Gisborne Chardonnay 2017

The vineyard source for these grapes is from the Briant vineyard in the Patutahi region of Gisborne. This vineyard is renowned for producing premium Chardonnay and the wine is made from a mixture of Chardonnay clones; 80% ENTAV INRA 548 and 20% ENTAV 809. The Chardonnay vines achieved good ripeness in 2017 and with low yields came excellent flavours and weight to the fruit.

Light golden colour. Ripe peach and melon layered with butterscotch and toasty oak notes. The palate is big, rich and full with great length and persistence. Enjoy with seafood, white meats and cheeses.

Gisborne Chenin Blanc 2016

Originally planted in the Loire Valley in France and made by Denis Irwin, one of Matawhero's founders in the 1980s, it is nice to have this varietal back in the Matawhero stable of wines. Aromas of citrus blossom, floral and orange zest. The palate has a nice acidity with stonefruit and honeysuckle.

Amazing with seafood and poultry.

Single Vineyard Gisborne Gewürztraminer 2017

The fruit for this wine was grown at our Matawhero vineyard, the first vineyard in NZ to plant Gewürztraminer. Matawhero has a long history with producing this variety and everyone was drinking it even the Queen back in the 70s and 80s. Silt loam over a clay base provides ideal growing conditions for the Gewürztraminer. Lovely aromas of rose petal and lychee with Turkish delight and spice.

Beautiful with milder Asian foods, blue cheese and fruit desserts.

Grown at the Briant's vineyard in the Patutahi region where the soils are a heavier Kaiti clay, this is an excellent site for producing premium Merlot.

A full-bodied wine with fruit flavours of wild berry and doris plum.

This new Entav Inra Clone 457 originally from France has a lovely loose berry set and small berries and bunches to intensify flavours and aromas in the wine. Very aromatic with flavours of pear, almond, beeswax and spice.

Single Vineyard Gisborne Pinot Rosé 2018

The grapes for this wine were carefully selected from the Tietjen vineyard. The clone used here is Dijon 777 and the vines are carefully managed to produce a quality table wine. With only two canes laid down for the growing season, the lower yields ensured early ripeness with intense flavours.

A lovely light Salmon colour with hints of pink. Strawberry and cherries with floral notes. A lovely aperitif or enjoy with Summer salads and seafood.
