Church House Range
The Matawhero Church has graced our wine label since 1975. Our Church House series, a collection of small and unique parcels of wine, is a tribute to this historic building and is inspired by the pioneering spirits of our founders - The late Bill Irwin and his son Denis.
This range of wines allows us to have a little fun in the winery and produce something a little different. We hope you enjoy them!
The clone used here is the ENTAV-INRA 548, a new clone imported from France which is suited to barrel fermentation. The clone is usually early ripening and produces full-bodied, balanced, meaty wines with complex aromas.
Ripe melon and fig notes on the nose with hints of oak. The palate is big, rich and full with great length and persistence.
Enjoy with seafood, white meats and cheeses.
Originally planted in the Loire Valley in France and made by Denis Irwin, one of Matawhero's founders in the 1980s, it is nice to have this varietal back in the Matawhero stable of wines. Aromas of citrus blossom, floral and orange zest. The palate has a nice acidity with stonefruit and honeysuckle.
Amazing with seafood and poultry.

This grape varietal has it's historical home in Spain and Portugal. Very aromatic with hints of citrus and peach. The wine has a lovely lively acidity and is beautiful with seafood, chicken and paella.
