Originally from Austria this grape variety the fruit for this wine is grown at the Tietjen vineyard in Gisborne. A restrained nose with hints of citrus blossom, mandarin and red apple, the palate is subtle with a hint of sweetness which dried out nicely.
Grüner is a wonderful food wine that can be match with an array of cuisines including sushi, fish, seafood and curries.
Arneis historical home is Piedmont in Northern Italy, and is a difficult variety to grow. Due to this it nearly disappeared as a variety and is often referred to as the "little rascal". Grown in Gisborne at the Bells vineyard in Hexton, this was the first planting of Arneis in Gisborne in 2004.
Incredible with fish, appetisers and white meat.

Originally planted in the Loire Valley in France and made by Denis Irwin, one of Matawhero's founders in the 1980s, it is nice to have this varietal back in the Matawhero stable of wines. Aromas of citrus blossom, floral and orange zest. The palate has a nice acidity with stonefruit and honeysuckle.
Amazing with seafood and poultry.

The fruit for this wine was grown at our Matawhero vineyard, the first vineyard in NZ to plant Gewürztraminer. Matawhero has a long history with producing this variety and everyone was drinking it even the Queen back in the 70s and 80s. Silt loam over a clay base provides ideal growing conditions for the Gewürztraminer.

This new Entav Inra Clone 457 originally from France has a lovely loose berry set and small berries and bunches to intensify flavours and aromas in the wine. Very aromatic with flavours of pear, almond, beeswax and spice.

The clone used here is the ENTAV-INRA 548, a new clone imported from France which is suited to barrel fermentation. The clone is usually early ripening and produces full-bodied, balanced, meaty wines with complex aromas.
Ripe melon and fig notes on the nose with hints of oak. The palate is big, rich and full with great length and persistence.
